Miriam

Jeremiah 1:5, Psalms 139:13-18

for I already formed you before

you entered my womb

already knew a world of night skies,

shimmering lights from far away

that would enchant you from your bedroom window

only to one day find out they were factories

My Miriam, I would shield you in cradles of lullabies

your crib protected by soft rhythms of twilight air

drifting through the cracked window

like your father’s humming does often

My drop of ocean

My star of the sea

I would turn wars into dioramas

for you, paint fighter jets into little birds

for you

let’s strain to hear their morning song

I can spin the world so peace is all you know
